School Counselors

GARN is here to support and advocate for our school counselors.  Hopefully this information is helpful to you as you navigate College Admissions Counseling!

Our preferred visit platforms are RepVisits and SCOIR for visiting high schools.  These make it easier for us to schedule visits to your school.

If there are no registrants/sign-ups for a college visit, please email the college rep before the visit (we may still want to spend time with the school counselor if you are available to do so, but that helps us to prepare for your visit).

College Visit Event Program Types:

College Panels – 3-5 college reps who answer college-related questions

College Fairs – Large events (20+ reps) where everyone gets a table and students/families walk up to the tables to ask questions

Mini College Fairs – Smaller college fairs (3-10 reps) that take place during a free period at the high school or lunch time

Financial Aid Nights – A presentation on Financial Aid (GSFC Rep of Fin Aid Officer) sometimes followed by a small panel to discuss cost at different schools

Mock Admissions/Case Studies – Students/Families receive a mock university profile, mock student applications, and read the files so that they can decide who to admit/waitlist/deny (exercise to showcase the Holistic Review)

Mock Interviews – Students are interviewed 1-on-1 by a college rep (practice for scholarship interviews or special program interviews)
